Welcome back to Week Five of the Arsies!
Intronaut start the week off strong with their prog masterpiece The Direction Of Last Things, and more than any other element, it's the album's concision that make the key difference today. You can hear it throughout the entire album, but it's perfectly captured on the title track; the band's disparate moods are all on display here, from their precise arrhythmia to their twangy jazziness, all within 5 minutes. Make no mistake: the Minsk in its turn is truly effective in its aural abuse, and a rewarding listen and re-listen. But at 75 minutes, it's punitively long.
When the dust clears, Intronaut (who have never before been accused of being economical) deliver a quick bodyblow to Minsk, and take the day. Who will their challengers be in the Quarterfinals next week: Rolo Tomassi or Lamb Of God? Find out tomorrow.
